Abundance - A Still Life
25"H x 49"W
Smalti, smalti metallics, millefiore, polished stone

Welcome to alla bizantina mosaics. "Alla bizantina", or in the style of the Byzantines, means that each single tesserae of the mosaic is cut immediately prior to being set, taking carefully into account the shape, cut and angle at which it must be set in order to capture the essence and define the design of the subject matter.

Most of my mosaics are created in smalti, or glass mosaics. Glass reflects light and adds many dimensions to the art. In order to photograph my mosaics, the photographer must eliminate glare, thus eliminating some of the fabulous reflected light smalti offers. Keep this in mind when viewing these mosaics.

Hello. My name is Annette Cossentine. This site offers you the opportunity to see some of my work. Thanks for visiting and be sure to check back often for updated information.

REPAST
20"H x 24"W
Smalti, transparenti smalti, agate slices, oyster shell

The chair is pulled out, asking the viewer to join this family at their table. Will you join? Mom is busy serving, Dad is ready to dig in, and junior is looking at you, asking for your company. Even mama bird is flying to feed her young.

For me, dining tables are a metaphor for life. Are you at the table, participating in life? What's on the table...is it full of good things? What else do you want to see there? Do you want to stay?

A Journey Begun
Smalti, Millefiore - 31" x 15"
Given as a wedding gift, this mosaic depicts the happy couple as they begin their journey together as husband and wife. I wish them nothing but fields of flowers and happiness. The clouds have silver linings and the sun's rays, shining upward, mean hope and all things good.
